This new canvas in the "Portraits of the World" series takes us
to Namibia with the Himbas.
Another success with beautiful shine on the skins,
full of different textures ...
The Himbas, Bantu people established in the north of Namibia
are related to the Heroes.
Traditionally, Himbas women dye their skin red with an ointment made from cow fat and red ocher powder (note the calabash on the right in which this mixture is reserved). This ointment whose coating is part of the criteria of female beauty also allows them to protect themselves from the heat of the sun, the dryness of the air and insects. Their hair is styled in smooth, thick braids, also coated with the same substance.
This red mixture is very well restored here, both on the skin
and on the hair.
The himbas' huts have a conical shape and are made and repaired only by women with branches of mopane wood, clay and cow excrement mixed with sand, here too the rendering of this mixture is superbly successful.
